The 1800's in South Africa were started by the British when they had came and started the British Colonization in 1795. In the early years in the 1800's there was an extended amount of British settlers moving into the southern parts of Africa. The British decided that the land that they were taking was for the best for everyone, both themselves and the Southern Africans who were there when they decided to take the land over. Initially British control was aimed to protect the trade route to the East, however, the British soon realized the potential to develop the Cape for their own needs. Once the British got hold of the power is the Cape part of South Africa is when the slavery began and the British all believed the slavery was for the good for everyone. The slavery had happened throughout time up until the abolition of the slavery act in 1834 that completely ended slavery in the Cape. With over 35,000 slaves being released the southern cape had finally started to have some positives for the Africans that were initially at the land before the British got there. The British had struck gold and other minerals that spiked the mining business and gave the British a reason to stay and use the slaves for something useful to help out with the mining by giving them jobs and giving them what they thought of as a positive life. Missionary Settlements happened more often than not and they were used by the Europeans coming to the Cape and trying to give them a religion and Christianize them, as that is what the Africans thought and the Europeans convinced of them doing.
